Past Parish Priests

Rev. Fr. Benedict Joseph was ordained a priest on December 19, 1970, by the late Thomas Cardinal Cooray at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena. His ministry began with a teaching appointment at St. Aloysius’ Minor Seminary, Borella, where he served after his ordination.

In January 1995, he was entrusted with the role of Parish Priest at All Saints’ Church, Borella. Later, from 2002 to 2008, he led St. Mary’s Church, Dehiwala, before taking on the responsibility of National Director of the Social Communications Center.

In 2014, he was appointed Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church, Eldeniya, Kadawatha, during which Eldeniya was formally recognized as a self-sustaining parish within the Archdiocese of Colombo.

Following a few years of service as a lecturer at Aquinas University College, he retired and now resides at the Evening Star Retirement Home for Priests in Colombo 05.

Rev. Fr. Julius Christopher served as the Parish Priest of Eldeniya from 2020 to 2023. Born on May 21, 1952, he answered his calling by entering the Borella Seminary, where he pursued his priestly formation before being ordained.

Throughout his ministry, he has served in numerous parishes, including St. Anthony’s Shrine, Dalupotha, Negombo, and St. Anthony’s Church, Weliweriya, where he served from 1999 to 2004.

After completing his tenure in Eldeniya, he was appointed Spiritual Director of St. Aloysius’ Minor Seminary, Borella, where he continues to guide and mentor seminarians in their journey toward priesthood.
