Sacraments

The Holy Mother of Expectation Catholic Church, Eldeniya, offers all the essential Sacraments of the Catholic Church to parishioners and the faithful, guiding them through their spiritual journey with God’s grace.

All sacraments are available to parishioners and the faithful. We invite you to experience the grace and blessings of these sacred moments as we journey together in faith.

Baptism

Baptism is the first step in the Christian life, welcoming the baptized into the Church and cleansing them from original sin. Through the waters of Baptism, we become children of God and members of Christ’s Body.

Baptism Schedule

Infant Baptisms are conducted every 1st and 3rd week of each month. Please contact the Parish Priest to register your child for Baptism.

Reconciliation (Confession)

The Sacrament of Reconciliation brings healing and forgiveness, allowing the faithful to confess their sins and receive God’s mercy. Through this sacrament, we are reconciled with God and renewed in His love.

Confession Schedule

Every 1st Friday 5 – 6 p.m. and by request.

Eucharist (Holy Communion)

The Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life, where we receive the Body and Blood of Christ. Through Holy Communion, we are spiritually nourished and united with Christ and His Church.

Please refer the Mass & Devotion Schedule to view the usual Eucharistic Devotions of the week.

Holy Communion to the Sick

2nd Friday – Cottages 1, 2, 3, 4
3rd Friday – Cottages 5, 6, 7, 8

Confirmation

In Confirmation, the faithful receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, strengthening them in their faith and commitment to Christ. This sacrament completes Baptism and empowers Catholics to live as true witnesses of Christ.

Confirmation Schedule

Once in 2 years. The next is scheduled for 2026

Holy Matrimony

The Sacrament of Matrimony unites a man and a woman in a sacred, lifelong covenant of love and fidelity, reflecting Christ’s love for His Church. Couples receive God’s blessing to build a family rooted in faith and love.

Instructions for Couples Planning their Wedding

  • Before finalizing the date, the Bride and Groom are strongly advised to meet the Parish Priest of the Church where they intend to solemnize their marriage at the earliest possible instance to confirm the availability of the date and time.
  • The Bride and Groom must meet their respective Parish Priests at least three months before the intended wedding date.
  • If marrying outside your home parish, consult your current Parish Priest and complete the necessary documents in advance.
  • Register the marriage before a Marriage Registrar and submit the pink slip to the Parish Priest of the church where the wedding will be celebrated.

Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick provides spiritual and physical healing, bringing comfort and strength to those who are seriously ill or in need of God’s grace. This sacrament offers peace, courage, and, when necessary, preparation for eternal life.

How to Request the Anointing of the Sick

  • The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available upon request.
  • If the recipient is physically and mentally able to receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession), which benefits the soul, please inform the priest and allow sufficient time for spiritual preparation.
  • This sacrament may be received multiple times in a person’s lifetime. Family members are encouraged not to wait until the final moments but to seek it earlier for spiritual and physical healing.
